Amazon Prime and The History takes fans to the era when expensive clothes and the central heating did not exist. The warriors fight everything which comes in their way and stays tough while conquering lands. It is not easy for the actors to do what they do. But nature definitely helped the creators to capture what they wanted.
Director Ciaran Donnelly talked about the tragic death of Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel). The scene was full of brutality. He explained how they were able to capture the true essence of brutality in the scene. Donnelly said,
It just rained solidly the entire time and it was really very cold. But on a show like Vikings which is heavily location driven, that’s the world you’re in and you’re always encountering weather. We would have called it the mud and blood and s**t.
Brutal Weather and Ragnar’s Death
The heavy rains brought the mud up till the knees. It makes everything so special and real. Ragnar was suspended in a cage and throw amidst the snakes in a pit. With the brutal weather, the scene got the impact of the terrible conditions that the Vikings have to face.
The director also talked about how the scene was truly moving and Travis struggled to deliver his lines. It was definitely not easy for him in the bad weather.

The mood of the set was so extraordinary. Donnelly said that it was really emotional for Travis. None of the cast members expected that it would turn out that way. Travis was so engulfed in emotions during the scene that it got really difficult for him to speak the dialogues.
