Game of Thrones season 8: Does Samwell Tarly have a new plan for the throne?

Game of Thrones season 8 begun with a big bang and wasted no time in addressing all the key issues at bay. One of the most important moments of the show was when Samwell Tarly learns about his father and brother’s death. So, what could be the possible repercussions after that?

What happened between Sam and Dany in Game of Thrones season 8?

In the first episode of Game of Thrones season eight, Sam told Jon Snow that he is actually not a bastard. He is the son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen and hence, the rightful heir to the throne. Jon was obviously shocked to discover this secret and that Ned Stark had hidden this from him for so long.  

But, before this revelation happened, Sam had a small confrontation with Daenerys and Jorah. She thanked him for saving Jorah’s life in the Citadel. But, she also revealed to him that his family had refused to bend the knee to her and hence she made Drogo burn them to ashes. Although, Sam was not close to his family, he was certainly stunned to hear about the gruesome death of his brother and father.

And this news might have propelled Sam to think if Daenerys actually fit to sit on the Iron Throne. Mind you, Sam already knew that Jon was the actual heir before Game of Thrones season 8 started.

What does the actor have to say about it?

John Bradley, who plays the role of Sam, recently revealed that Sam broke the news about Jon’s identity with a motive. In this way, Sam would get his revenge too. Bradley said, “He’s [Sam] helping himself as much as he is helping Jon. But, he manipulates too, just like everyone else. He has to take care of Gilly and little Sam too. Ultimately, he has their best interests at heart.

But, Sam’s gesture might actually be a hint that he is protecting Jon from the Mother of Dragons. Because, now he knows that she can go to any extent to get what she wants.

Bradley told TheWrap, “Sam has seen how cold Daenerys’ is in other’s lives. He has already found out that her quest for power has no morality. And she would not entertain anyone who disobeys her.”
