Fans who have not read the fantasy books are wondering what difference does the Netflix version has with the novels and how was Geralt or Rivia portrayed in the original source? Here are the differences in The Witcher show vs The Witcher books and analysis of a faithful adaption from books to TV series.
The Witcher Netflix vs The Witcher Book Series
The Witcher series closely follows the collection of short stories which was written way before the original books. It takes place over different time intervals and shows the story of Geralt, Yennefer and Ciri over several decades. There are a few simple differences between the show and the books but the end result is always the same.
Netflix’s The Witcher is a TV show and it can’t cover every single event of the book and hence some of the plotlines and characters are ignored but the main story arc is similar. Even the dialogues are kind of picked up from the books where Henry Cavill’s character says a prophecy has to rhyme.
Also, the showrunners have gone for accurate looks and costumes for which the main characters are even wearing wigs and eye-lenses. In conclusion, The Witcher Netflix show vs The Witcher books have marginal differences and remain faithful to the source mostly.
The Witcher Series is the Most Faithful Book Adaptation
Fans who have read the books and have watched the Netflix show are totally happy with it and have praised the acting, fight scenes and cinematography of the show. Even the creator Andrzej Sapkowski is happy with Henry Cavill as The Witcher and called it a perfect casting.

Also, the showrunners have assured the viewers that The Witcher season 2 will have a coherent storyline and follow the main books in The Witcher series very closely. Hence, the first season of Witcher could be difficult to compare with the books and novels, but the second season confirms that it will be a very faithful adaption to the original source books.
