Shrek 5 Release Date announced, Production and Filming for Shrek Reboot to Start Soon

Shrek 5 movie is something all the fans of this animated series are eagerly waiting for since the last decade. There have been numerous spinoffs and TV shows based on Shrek movies. Even one of the characters from the Shrek universe got its own standalone movie, ‘Puss in Boots’ whose sequel is also in works. It makes everyone wonder where is Shrek 5 if the movie series is so popular and when will be the fifth installment in the Shrek franchise come out on the big screens?

Dreamworks has confirmed the Shrek 5 sequel a long ago but it’s been years and work has not started on the film. However, with the recently leaked Shrek 5 release date, it seems that production and filming will start soon and Shrek 5 could be a reboot, instead of a sequel.

Shrek 5 Production and Filming will Start Soon

Shrek 5 is in production for sure given NBCUniversal has discussed with Dreamworks to make another Shrek movie as it is one of their most popular properties and they have big plans for the franchise in the future. There are also reports that the animators have started pre-production work on Shrek 5 movie, dismissing all the rumors about cancellation of the movie.

Michael McCullers was hired to write the new script for Shrek 5 and he used his fresh vision to take the franchise in a new direction. The only reason filming has not started for the movie is because the same team of animators is currently busy working on Puss in Boots sequel. It seems that the work is about to be completed and voice dubbing for Shrek 5 and filming will start very soon.

Shrek 5 is a Reboot and not Sequel

Shrek 5 will be very different from the previous movies as it has been reported to be a reboot and not some regular sequel. The animation style and the plotlines will totally change in the fifth installment of Shrek, but the main voice actors can still reprise their roles to give a fresh take on their respective characters. Shrek 5 will release in September 2022 as per IMDb and other media reports.
