D’Angelo Russell was never going to be a permanent part of the Golden State Warriors and it will be proved soon when the 2020 NBA trade deadline hits. It seems that the All-Star point guard will be traded soon and the latest name linked with Russell is Ben Simmons from Philadelphia 76ers.
The Warriors will only move D’Angelo out if they think it is worth but they could change their mind if the 76ers offers a trade package including Ben Simmons. The 76ers and Warriors exchanging Russell and Simmons in a trade deal is almost confirmed as per some source and from a sports point of view, it actually makes a lot of sense.

Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid pairing is not viable if the Philadelphia team is hoping for an NBA championship. The 76ers would be better off with a point guard capable of shooting, scoring and running the show for which D’Angelo Russell will be a perfect fit.

Even the Warriors are better off with Simmons, who would solve their logjam problem in the backcourt. The All-Star point guard will fit perfectly in the Dubs core along with Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green and also ease their salary cap.
D’Angelo Russell and Ben Simmons Exchange Deal Confirmed?
While the D’Angelo Russell and Ben Simmons exchange trade deal make perfect sense for Warriors-76ers sports-wise, it could have certain contract related issues. Russell is making nearly $29 million per year, the annual salary of Simmons is only $8.1 million per season.

Philadelphia 76ers would have to add another player as an asset or one of their 2020 first-round picks to make the deal possible. There is no way the Golden State Warriors will settle on something less, but the Russell-for-Simmons trade is a very plausible deal to get confirmed before the 2020 February NBA trade deadline.
