Anthony Davis has reportedly declined a four-year, $146 million contract extension from the Los Angeles Lakers and is planning to become a free agent this summer. The Lakers made the offer to Davis on Tuesday, which is earliest as per the league rules. But Davis declined the extension offer because of reasons citing focus on the current season and salary cap issues.

The Lakers offered Anthony Davis a max contract extension this morning but he turned it down to enter free agency, per @ChrisBHaynes.

However, it doesn’t mean that the six-time All-Star will leave the Lakers, as the extension deal offer was just a formality. Anthony Davis has been saying from a long time that he will enter free agency, but experts believe he will still re-sign with the LA Lakers.
Anthony Davis in Free Agency 2020 Deals
Anthony Davis is well aware of the fact that he can get a better deal from the Lakers if he becomes a free agent. The Lakers will be easily ready to offer Davis a five year, $202 million contract in Summer free agency, which is $56 million more than the current deal.
The 26-year-old power forward can also opt for a two-year contract deal and become a free agent in 2020 after completing 10 years of service in the NBA. By doing so, Anthony Davis will be able to sign a contract of value equal to 35 percent of the salary cap.
Future of Anthony Davis with Lakers
Los Angeles Lakers are at the top position in NBA Western Conference with 30-7 record and second only to Milwaukee Bucks in the East. Anthony Davis has been playing amazing this season and could easily become the MVP and Defensive Player of the Year.
In the NBA 2019-20 season, Davis is playing with an average of 27.7 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 2.6 blocks per game. He knows that the Lakers depend on him but at the same time, LeBron James is getting older and it would be hard to repeat the current season’s team performance. Anthony Davis may sign with the Lakers for next season also, but it all depends on how the current season ends for the team.
