Friends Reunion Special on HBO Max might get Canceled, Stars are asking Too much Money

Friends reunion special is in works at HBO Max and even after two months, there is no progress on the project. It looks like Friends reunion might not happen at the special episode could be canceled over budget issues. HBO Max is planning to put out a reunion episode before they air all the ten seasons of F.R.I.E.N.D.S on the streaming service.

It would be used as a way to generate buzz about the show and gain more subscribers for the service. Although there are still around 4 months for Friends to air on HBO Max, the reunion special could be somehow saved if the contract negotiations could be resolved.

Friends Reunion HBO Max Current Status

HBO Max CCO Kevin Reilly said about the Friends reunion special that, “There is interest all around and yet we can’t get the interests all alighted to push the button on it.” But in the end, Reilly added, “Today it’s just maybe” hinting that the future of Friends special is very dim.

Courtney Cox (Monica), Jennifer Aniston (Rachel), Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe), Matthew Perry (Chandler), Matt LeBlanc (Joey) and David Schwimmer (Ross) all will be returning to the Friends reunion special episode. The problem is that these stars are very costly and there is at least $10 million salary gap between what the cast is demanding and what the studio is willing to pay. Warner Bros. TV has currently stopped working on the Friends project due to the eight-figure gap and the show has come to a standstill.

Friends 2020 on HBO Max

Friends 2020 or the new reruns of the show on HBO Max will start in May this year and to make it popular, a reunion episode was made which could kickstart the whole thing. Fans are still hoping that all the problems will be solved and they would get to see Friends reunion special very soon.

Even if it doesn’t happen, the original ten seasons of Friends will be finally available to stream on HBO Max after Friends streaming rights taken off from Netflix at the end of 2019.
