NFL: Dallas Cowboys Lose to Ezekiel Elliot, New Deal With More Money in Works

Dallas Cowboys have finally given up to the demands of Ezekiel Elliot and will offer him a new deal very soon. The latest reports state that Cowboys are signing Elliot for a massive $90 million, six-year deal. Even though there is no confirmation, sources claim that Cowboys and Elliot are in the final stage of a contract extension.

Once the deal is made, the 24-year-old running back will become the highest-paid RB in the NFL. The deal would even surpass what the Los Angeles Rams signed with Todd Gurley II which was a four-year extension at $60 million with $45 million guaranteed. After so many twists and turns in the whole Jerry Jones and Zeke drama, they have made up their mind and the new deal will be signed before the Week 1 of NFL 2019 season.

Cowboys needs Zeke after Playoffs

The Cowboys knew that they have to sign Elliot anyhow as their season opener game is just a few days away. Jerry Jones has previously said that the Cowboys can make it to the playoffs without Zeke. But after that, the team needs him if they want to win among the big teams in Super Bowl.

It would also be better for Elliot as he will have full rest and will be ready to boost in the postseason games. While the whole thing sounds good, it can be a bit difficult for the Dallas team to reach playoffs without their star running back. In the last season, Elliot was suspended and the Cowboys missed the playoffs by a 7-9 record.

Ezekiel Elliot is necessary for the Cowboys to move forward as when he played all the 15 games, the team won the NFC East division title. There is good news for the Cowboys that Zeke is also preparing for his comeback and is in great shape. Elliot knew that one day he will be called back and hence he was working out at Cabo San Lucas in Mexico.

The Cowboys doesn’t have any better replacement and the rookie Tony Pollard is the only decent name in the roster. While Pollard has impressed everyone in the preseason games, it won’t be the same when things are serious in the regular season.
