It has been a long time since season 6 of Prison Break was announced. Fans delighted to hear that their favorite characters will be returning, but their hopes were getting tenuous when they did not hear anything from the production house for months.

For a long time, Fox refused to make any comment on the upcoming season and this led to believe that the season 6 had been canceled.
Why was season 6 release delayed
However, the delay was caused only because of the merging of Fox with Disney which was finalized in March this year. Following the events, the production for Prison Break season 6 started off as fans breathed a sigh of relief.
More and more news is being released now that the show is on floor. The latest in the series of updates is that season 6 may see a time jump from the end of the previous installment. We may also see a new generation in the upcoming episodes.
Prison Break season 6 time jump explained
The time jump certainly makes sense since it has been several years since season 5 was released. The actors have aged and it would not be wise to pretend that nothing changed between the finale of season 5 and premiere of season 6.
There has been no official confirmation regarding the release date of the installment. Although production has started, it will take a long time for the studio to finish filming. We can expect the show to be released in the first half of 2020 and not anytime before.
