Key member of ‘Doctor Who’ cast fired from the show over controversial tweets

Gareth Roberts will no longer work on Doctor Who project. After the emergence of his transgender tweets and the offensive language he used.

Doctor Who writer gets sacked after transphobic tweets

Roberts has written several episodes of Doctor Who including The Caretaker, Planet of the Dead and Closing Time along with a series of books. The writer made an announcement wherein he mentioned that he has already submitted the complete story before agitations began for his removal.

BBC Books met these demands quickly. Even though Roberts will be paid for the story, it won’t be published as it may lead to a potential boycott and be economically unviable. According to Roberts, his tweets about the transgender community which he described as “cheerful vulgarity” led to the protests. In 2017, Roberts wrote,

I love how trannies choose names like Munroe, Paris and Chelsea. It’s never Julie or Bev is it? It’s almost like a clueless gayboy’s idea of a glamorous lady. But of course it’s definitely not that.

Sources confirmed that Ebury Publishing will bot feature Roberts’ work in the upcoming Doctor Who: The Target Storybook. The fans have been really upset with the comments made by the writer about the transgender community.

Some Doctor Who writers including Julie Bindel defended Roberts, while others like Susie Day questioned his involvement and refused to work with him. She was glad for BBC Books’ decision which made it clear that there is no place for the transphobic views.

Doctor Who: The Target Storybook is set to release in October this year and will feature stories from Susie Day, Jenny T Colgan, Matthew Sweet, and Terrance Dicks.
