Although the health benefits of coffee have been a controversial subject for a long time now, there is no doubt that the antioxidant activity and brain-boosting ability of the beverage are unparalleled.

However, there are also downsides to excessive drinking of coffee. These include insomnia, indigestion, and increased heart rate and blood pressure. Therefore the question remains whether coffee is good for health or not.

A study was published in the British Medical Journal recently, which stated that drinking 3 to 4 cups of coffee a day may be related to lower risk of death and heart diseases. It also stated that coffee is related to a decreased risk of some forms of cancer, diabetes, liver diseases, and dementia.

Moreover, the latest research published in the European Journal of Epidemiology revealed that coffee is also linked with decreased mortality.

Can prevent Parkinson’s, cancer

Clinical dietitian Dana Al Shak’a has revealed that coffee contains excess antioxidants called polyphenols. These can help in reducing inflammation and cellular damage. She also revealed that in some cases, coffee might even help with reducing the risk of Parkinson’s, cancer, and diabetes.

Pros and cons of coffee consumption

To gain maximum benefits from your cup of joe, you should drink plain black coffee or just with milk. This is because adding cream, syrup, sugar, and flavors tend to increase the calories. Lightly roasted filter coffee, which is unsweetened is the best option.
