High School Musical 4 was announced in 2016 and fans were rejoiced to hear the news. However, there was no further announcement for the next two years, and this resulted in rumors circulating that the release of the film has been canceled.

But it seems that the speculations were baseless because High School Musical 4 went into the pre-production phase in the first half of 2019. More and more details regarding the 4th installment of the popular franchise are being revealed. As a result, the fans are now much more sure about the release of the film.
High School Musical 4 plot set 15 years in the future
The third High School Musical film was released more than 10 years ago and fans are expecting the 4th film to be different from the previous one. Of course, the story will be entirely different but we are also expecting different tone and atmosphere because of the wide gap between the last film and this one.

It has already been confirmed that High School Musical 4 will focus on the rivalry between East High Wildcats and West High Knights. But there will also be many changes. Speculations have suggested that the new film will be 15 years forward and we will see new students as a result.
Zac Efron coming back for a cameo in HSM 4?
High School Musical 4 faced several challenges in its production and one of them was that the older members of the cast did not sign up for the movie. In fact, Disney had been looking for fresh faces to stars in the sequel.
The new members of the cast include Joshua Bassett, Sofia Wylie, Larry Saperstein, Matt Cornett, and Olivia Rodrigo. The older cast members like Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens will not be returning, although fans will be glad to know that there is a good possibility that Zac Efron might return for a cameo role.
On the other hand, Vanessa Hudgens has stated that she is not interested in the project.
High School Musical 4 release date
There has been no official release time frame given for High School Musical 4 by Disney. However, considering the fact that the movie went into pre-production earlier this year, it is highly probable that HSM 4 won’t be seeing a worldwide release until mid-2020. We expect a teaser to drop by in either late 2019 and early 2020.
