In the European countries, St Joseph’s Day is celebrated as Father’s Day for the recognition of the male parent’s special role. According to sources, this all was started by an American woman whose father raised her. The lady named Sonora Smart Dodd was born in 1982 in Sebastian County, Arkansas. She lost her mother at the age of sixteen years. After that, her father William Smart raised all the children, including her five brothers and her.

Dodd was concerned that there was not a single day to honor and acknowledge her civil war veteran father. She originally wanted the celebration to held on 5 June which was also her father’s birthday, but due to some reasons, it was pushed to 19 June 1910.
