At the beginning of 2019, we saw the launch of Samsung’s Galaxy Fold and Huawei’s Mate X mobile phones boasting a flexible display. However, both products started to show technical failure displays stated to show creases and breaks at the point of folding.
These events have not slowed the Apple as it moved forward by filing a patent for a foldable display.
The patent application was filed in January 2018 and it is among other applications related to the foldable iPhone. The application explains that the electronic device sports a display panel that can be folded.
Interestingly the images in the patent clearly show that the device in question can be folded not once or twice, but three times according to the patent, the device is made of flexible material and display working in tandem with a hinge and hard glass-like parts.
Is it a foldable iPhone or a foldable iPad?
The patent has not clearly mentioned whether the electronic device is a mobile phone or a tablet.
However, we expect the device to be a tablet because it would require a more prominent display to sport a three-point fold.
A flexible battery for a Flexible iPhone/iPad
This is not the first patent filing that has shown the plans of Apple to build a foldable iPhone. In March 2018 the Cupertino based tech giant had filed a patent for a flexible battery.
