Right when we were thinking that WhatsApp is free from all bugs, one more has just been found out. According to a report, WhatsApp has got a serious security issue that cyber zombies like hackers can easily take advantage of.

The buzz is that the WhatsApp security issue can give access to hackers of users’ phone. The news has not even matured properly yet and it has claimed its first victim already. A London based rights activist is the first of the bug living in WhatsApp.

“We have discovered and fixed the vulnerability the attackers had sought to exploit. The hackers could implant malicious code on a victim’s phone by placing a voice call to the victim on WhatsApp — victims may not even have needed to answer the call for their phone to be infected,” an expert told CNN Business.

“The attack has all the hallmarks of a private company reportedly that works with governments to deliver spyware that takes over the functions of mobile phone operating systems,” said a WhatsApp spokesperson.

WhatsApp has not mentioned the name of the company, which is behind this malicious spyware. However, sources close to the development of this news are referring to an Israeli company called NSO Group.

“Under no circumstances would NSO be involved in the operating or identifying of targets of its technology, which is solely operated by intelligence and law enforcement agencies,” said NSO group in a statement to media.

A London based human rights lawyer has been targeted by the WhatsApp spyware. The lawyer has even filed a case against the group for the breach.

It is being maintained that no information has been leaked as the breach was already fixed by WhatsApp.
