The Last of Us Part 2: Why is it delayed?

The Last of Us: Part 2 is perhaps the most anticipated game this year. The hype surrounding this game is rivaled only CD Projekt Red’s “Cyberpunk 2077”. However, despite the incredible hype around this game, Naughty Dog, the label releasing the game, has yet to announce a release date.

This hesitancy on the developer’s behalf has led to speculation of exactly how of much of the game remains to be developed. We have had a few updates, the latest one coming from co-director Anthony Newman, asking people to join them and help them wrap up the last stage of development.

Before that, we had an update from the director of the game, Neil Druckmann, tweeting that the The Last of Us: Part 2 had ended filming last month. And back in 2017, he had confirmed that the game was 50/60 per cent complete. So adding all that up, we can safely conclude that the game will have either a late 2019 or and early 2020 release. The former seems more likely at the moment.

There have also been a few leaks from within the gaming industry that add to these claims. Gustavo Santaolalla, a reliable source in the industry, said that the game is coming out “very soon”. IGN host, Alanah Pearce, also gave us a clue back in January, when he asked on Twitter why the game wasn’t listed as one of 2019’s most anticipated titles.

When told by fans that the release date hadn’t been announced yet, Alanah let slip a personal memory of the game’s release date. She tweeted that she “firmly remembered” something about the game being released in 2019, and perhaps her brain just assumed that it was public information. The tweet itself has since been deleted, adding more weight to her words.

The Last of Us franchise is often touted as one of the best to ever grace the market. So it is not surprising that the fans cannot wait to get their hand on the latest work from this franchise. And it appears as if they may not have to wait much longer.
