Esposito discusses the end of the show

Better Call Saul season 6 release date season 5The speculations started when actor-director Giancarlo Esposito stated in an interview that Better Call Saul will end after 6 seasons. He said, “It seems like that’s the way — the comfortable way to end this show.”

Esposito plays the meth distributor and fast food chain owner Gustavo Fringe in the show. He also revealed that he is not certain about the news because Executive Producer Vince Gilligan may change the format as he did with Breaking Bad.

Esposito revealed:

“It’s tricky with [co-creator Vince Gilligan]. If you look at the Breaking Bad model, you know, he said five years, five seasons, and we shot that fifth season, but it was really five and six, and then he broke it into a sixth.”

However, the opinion is not shared by Rhea Seehorn, who plays Kimberly Wexler, Jimmy’s love interest. She revealed that creators of Better Call Saul, Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould had made ‘no concrete decisions’ regarding the length of the show.

Seehorn clarifies

She also added that Esposito may have misunderstood a conversation between the two co-creators as they have joked about making the same number of episodes as Breaking Bad.

She explained,

“ But they said that with a grin because I think sentimentally it’s sweet to them to bookend [the shows] that way,”

It is entirely possible that Esposito learned about the conversation and took it at face value.

Seehorn further explained

“They know, generally, the story. They obviously know the ending because it’s Breaking Bad. I don’t think they’re set on: How many episodes does it take to tell that story? I don’t think it’s set in stone. I think they like the idea of, ‘What if it was the same amount?’ but they’ll do whatever they have to do for the story. I know that to be true.”

So it is highly likely that Better Call Saul will go beyond 6 seasons, but we will have to wait and watch to find out more.
