Age of Empires 4: Everything you need to know about the upcoming sequel

Age of Empires 4 is the much-awaited game entry in the historical strategy game series developed by Microsoft and Relic studios. The third Age of Empires game was released in 2005 and it has been 14 years since fans have been waiting.

Several spin-offs have come out after that, with the latest called Castle siege released in 2017. It looks like the latest game is getting close, here is everything you need to know about Age of Empires 4.

Game Trailer

Microsoft launched an official trailer for the announcement of Age of Empires 4 from their Windows Youtube channel. The trailer came out in August 2017 and its been almost 2 years and fans are still waiting. Each of the game has focused on a specific period in history and Age of Empires 4 will deal with Native Americans, British Redcoats, Romans, and Japanese samurai. All of them belong to different time periods, which hints that the game would have different modes.

Release Date

The makers of Age of Empires 4 have not even hinted about the release date, and there are very few rumors on it too. Looking at the trailer, which is mostly concept art and no game footage, the game might be still in making. Although considering they were eager to release a trailer, Age of Empires 4 might be coming soon. An educated guess from our side would be that the Age of Empires 4 could release at the earliest in the middle of the year 2020.

Gameplay and New Features

Age of Empires is basically a real-time strategy based game, where you plan, coordinate and fight battles. It is generally played as the same way as Clash of Clans, with the 4 ex features (explore, expand, exploit and exterminate). Given it has been almost 14 years, there might be a lot of new changes in Age of Empires 4 such as:

• The UI might be totally revamped with a lot more functions added and making it sleeker and smoother.
• Battle tactics will be improved a lot, a big army always wins might not be the case, there will be complex strategies involved.
• While the earlier Age of Empires dealt with building a small town, the 4th version might include multiple cities.
