PTSD stands for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. It is a mental condition which is triggered by terrifying experiences. According to a new study these people are vulnerable to developing heart diseases. The study is on people afflicted with psychological trauma.

PTSD: the study
Researchers have identified 136,637 patients of Sweden. These have no history of health diseases. Moreover, they are all diagnosed with diseases related to stress. This includes Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
In this study, each of the patients was compared. This comparison was with siblings as well as people who were unrelated. However, they belong to the same age group and sex. Moreover, they all are free from mental and heart diseases.

The study is published in the British Medical Journal on the 10th of April.
Conclusions
The study reveals that patients with the stress-related disorder are more prone to developing heart diseases. This risk 64 percent higher. This is in comparison to their siblings. Moreover, the risk is 70 percent when compared to those unrelated patients.
Moreover, the study finds that the year following the diagnosis of the mental disease, the vulnerability was four times higher. This is in comparison to their siblings.
The study also reveals that in 27 years 10.5 percent of patients develop heart diseases. However, only 8.4 percent f the sibling get the disease. The percentage is even less in the group of the general population. It is only 6.9 percent.
