RECALL ALERT: Henry Avocado Recall Over Possible Listeria Contamination

The US avocado importer slash producer Henry Avocado has voluntarily recalled a shipment of avocadoes over potential Listeria contamination.

The California based company made an announcement yesterday that organic and conventional avocados grown and packed at the company’s facility in the state of California may be contaminated with bacterium Listeria monocytogenes.

Contaminated products location

The affected products were shipped to various retail stores in six states: Arizona, California, Florida, New Hampshire, North Carolina and Wisconsin. They were packed in California in late January 2019.

The company said that avocados imported from Mexico and distributed by the company are free of contamination and not being recalled.

Customers are being contacted immediately for quick removal of the products from retail store shelves.

Phil Henry, President of Henry Avocado said

“We are voluntarily recalling our products and taking every action possible to ensure the safety of consumers who eat our avocados.”

How to identify contaminated Henry Avocado Products

The recalled products have “Brovacado” sticker on the conventional ones and “organic” on the organic products. Retail stores can identify the affected produce by scanning the bar code on the items.

Discovery of contamination

A routine inspection by the government at the California facility revealed positive contamination of the environmental samples. It is being said that the recall notice is purely out of an abundance of caution. There have been no reported illnesses so far.
