Demonstrators from all over the country will walk into the Parliament today to demand a final say on Brexit. It is estimated that the number of protestors will be nearly 1 million, surpassing the 700,000 that marched for the same cause in October last year.
The deputy leader of the Labour party, Tom Watson, will suggest that the Brexit issue should be resolved by the public since the Parliament does not seem to be able to do so.
The march is being called ‘Put It To The People’.
Watson said, “The current impasse is not working for people who voted to leave or people who voted to stay. I really don’t think Parliament will be able to resolve this.”
Watson also added that to have legitimacy in the eyes of the public, the people have to sign it off themselves.
Former Conservative cabinet minister Justine Greening, former attorney general Dominic Grieve, SNP Westminster leader Ian Blackford and several other notable speakers will be addressing the march.
Brexit has been extended to May 22 after Prime Minister Theresa May failed to get MPs to back her deal for the second time. Another failure could mean a much longer wait, or the UK leaving without any deal.
Nearly four million people have signed a petition urging the government to halt Brexit.
